Security FeaturesGavelThief works to protect both your personal and eBay account information using a variety of methods. Below is a list of GavelThief's security features and a brief explanation of each. Each user account (associated with an eBay account) in GavelThief is saved to its own file for portability purposes. These files are highly encrypted and can only be opened and modified by GavelThief, ensuring that your sensitive information is safe. All outgoing communications that include your sensitive information (sniping eBay auctions, verifying user licenses, etc.) are highly encrypted to prevent eavesdropping. Users have the option to require that the eBay password for an account be provided when that account is opened, modified, or deleted within GavelThief. We highly recommend that all GavelThief accounts be password protected. One of the most important security features of GavelThief is the ability to protect your eBay account from eBay itself. Yes, you read that correctly! One major problem with many eBay auction snipers (especially online services) is the inability to mimic you, the user. Because GavelThief runs from the same computers that you used to login to your eBay account, it uses your IP addresses to snipe your auctions. GavelThief also practices advanced web browser mimicry by posting the appropriate web headers and navigating through eBay's websites in such a way that eBay could never tell the difference between GavelThief and a normal eBay user. GavelThief checks for new updates at specific time intervals and automatically applies new udpates when available. This method of auto-updating keeps your installation of GavelThief up-to-date and as safe as possible. We believe that GavelThief is already as safe as it can possibly be, but if we at any point discover otherwise a new security update can be quickly released. |
